WHY WATERCRESS?

First off Meg and I are totally convinced we were rabbits in another life! We don’t go without adding greens into almost every meal! We add it into our smoothies, eggs, salads, and sides. I remember it was the ‘Ol watercress cucumber and butter/clotted cream sandwich, but now it’s making a great comback as one of our new super foods!

Watercress is a part of the cruciferous family of vegetables along with kale, broccoli, arugula and Brussels sprouts. AND as we know this “family” of greens are the kings of healthy eating and cancer fighting vegetables! Even Hippocrates, the father of medicine, used watercress to treat his patients!

At a recent visit to our Naturopathic doctor, we discussed our “new” favorite green. Doc was super excited with our discovery as he shared that WATERCRESS has long been heads and tales above KALE in it’s nutritional and ANDI score (Aggregate Nutrient Density Index). To earn a high rank, a food must provide a high amount of nutrients for a small amount of calories. Watercress received the highest rank possible! We were so happy to learn that our instinct to add more watercress into our rotation of greens IS a benefit to our healthy eating lifestyle! AND we are delighted to share it with YOU!
